About Martin Cooke
Martin grew up in the Woodlands area of Houston, Texas, where music has always been a part of his life. By the time he was in high school, Martin was already heavily involved in the marching band and percussion world.
His love of music and the structure of rhythm carried with him to his studies in college, where Martin initially studied music at University of Houston but soon realized that he wanted to study the technical side of music production.
The Berklee Years & the Formation of Halftone
In 2003, Martin brought his lust for knowledge to Boston, where he continued his synthesis and engineering studies at Berklee College of Music. He soon met up with Frank Charlton, and soon the friendship blossomed into Halftone Productions. Martin and Frank dedicated their spare time to recording local bands both in Berklee’s studios and using their own mobile recording rigs.
When the opportunity arose for Halftone to travel to Hawaii to record and mix a record for Madi Diaz, Martin jumped at the chance. After mastering the album in Boston, he packed up a U-Haul with Frank and made the long drive to Los Angeles.
A Professional Career in Los Angeles
Martin has been busy working in Los Angeles for the past three years, mainly through Henson Recording Studio in Hollywood. There he’s been able to work with many of the industry’s greatest producers and engineers like Brendan O’Brien, Nick Raskulinecz, Randy Staub, RedOne, and Ed Cherney.
